Left carpal tunnel release, left trigger thumb release
10/01/10: It is two days status post left carpal tunnel release and bilateral trigger thumb releases. I am doing pretty darn good, considering.
The triggering of my right thumb happened shortly after my carpal tunnel release and boy was I mad that it didn't appear earlier!
My doctor agreed to release the right thumb while doing my left hand.
Everything seems to be a little easier this time around, since my dominant hand is fairly free, though there are things that are very hard to do, mainly unscrewing things or opening cans. I've had to rely a lot on my family this time around.
Showering was very hard the first night. I planned ahead and purchased shampoos, conditioners and body wash that come with pumps (Pantene, Aussie & Johnson & Johnson Baby wash, respectively).

Second attempt on foot IV
I have never had an IV anywhere other than my arms, so it was interesting (and, admittedly, rather scary) to get the IV in my foot. The first attempt, my vein rolled. The second attempt was good, except my vein dipped down and it caused the IV to crimp so I was getting no medication.
Finally, an IV was placed in my right forearm, leaving adequate space for the tourniquet to be placed.

Typing is a LOT easier this time around, although I feel I need to stop typing now, as my left hand is getting a little tired. I was able to pull an already hooked bra over my head and put into place today. Wiping is not an issue at all with the trigger thumb. It just feels a little tender afterwards. I need to remember not to hold wide mouthed objects (cat bowls) because that hurts a bit...

Left carpal tunnel & trigger thumb release 2 days postop
There really is not much to say. I have an allergy to the bandages and had to remove them after they'd gotten wet as well. I found a "cast glove" at Walgreen's that has two Velcro straps for closure. It worked well once, maybe twice. But water does get in.
The fingers are moving okay but I cannot wait for my first postop appointment (10/7/10) to get the bandages taken off, and the stitches removed. I've been able to do more and more each day. I've been off pain meds for two days now. Growing more and more anxious to get out and actually do something. The thumbs barely bother me except when I push them a little far in the range of motion that is comfy.
